Unlocking the Potential of Frontier Finance
The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), the organizing body for all things impact investing, recently released Unlocking the Potential of Frontier Finance. As capital flows fall far short of demand for investment in companies improving the lives of low-income people in emerging and frontier markets — and far short of the estimated capital required to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — the GIIN sought to identify key recommendations for investors to grow and strengthen their frontier finance activities and encourage new capital into the market.
The report includes in-depth case studies that offer illustrative examples of how specific frontier finance vehicles navigate the full investment process and how transactions unfolded. Mercy Corps Ventures is highlighted in a case study to serve as an example fund succeeding in the space; the case study starts on page 24. We are excited to share lessons learned and concrete opportunities for impact investors to channel more capital to effective solutions that can transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable communities.
