Mercy Corps CEO Tjada D’Oyen McKenna Responds to the Passage of U.S. Supplemental Humanitarian and Food Assistance

“We applaud U.S. lawmakers for approving nearly $10 billion in additional humanitarian and food assistance funding, which is crucial for addressing conflict-driven and other crises around the world. This injection of resources is urgently needed to enable the international community to confront catastrophes in areas where humanitarian responses have struggled to support communities, such as Sudan, Venezuela, Gaza, and Ukraine.

“As new crises emerge and existing ones continue, U.S. investment in international humanitarian and development efforts is now more important than ever, not just to save lives but also to support early recovery and long-term resilience-building efforts. We urge Congress to continue supporting this work by increasing resources, particularly for development and food security, as they begin the FY25 appropriations process.”
